So it’s April. Finally. After a ridiculously cold, snowy and long winter I’m ecstatic. Too much rain, BUT a few days like today – sunny and green and WARM! I just love feeling the sun on my skin as I absorb it and it feels like new life to me. So I’m thinking maybe our homeschool is ready for a break. Yes, yes, we already had the traditional break back in March, in the winter, when there was snow on the ground. That’s when my husband’s spring break was (he’s a teacher). I sure wouldn’t choose early March for a spring break without a good reason. And if I did, I would have the good sense to call it winter break.
I was thinking, though, how much of our summer break the children don’t want to go out to play because it’s SOOO hot and humid here. I was also thinking about how much yardwork there is to do this time of year and maybe instead of a real break I could put my kids to work in the yard with me and we’d get done what needed to be. It’s not like they wouldn’t be learning. They’d be learning how to work hard and the difference between the plants that are supposed to be there and the weeds (if I ever figure it out). There’d still be time for them to play in the beautful weather, too. Maybe in the heat of summer we could spend time on the more traditional learning inside the air conditioned house. What are the odds I’d really follow through and “do school” in July and August? Hmmmm It sounds lovely, I’m just not great at follow through. KWIM? I’ll have to ponder it a bit.
